People with liver disease may be able to benefit from consuming mangosteen extract (MGS). This extract, which is derived from the fruit peel of the mangosteen, has been studied for its potential to heal liver damage caused by ionizing radiation (IR). Our study investigated the healing effect of MGS against liver injury due to exposure to IR, whether accidental or after radiation therapy treatment. We found that MGS can help reduce inflammation and apoptosis, two common effects of radiation-induced liver damage.
Mangosteen-based products, such as supplements and juices, are widely available for those who want to get the health benefits of mangosteen but struggle to find fresh fruit. These products can provide a convenient way for people with liver disease to get the benefits of MGS without having to source fresh mangosteen. It is important to note that more research is needed to fully understand the effects of MGS on liver disease. However, our study suggests that MGS may be a beneficial supplement for people with liver disease.
